GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE FURTHER TRAINING OF DOCTORS

The aim of further training is to provide doctors, after completing their university professional training, with in-depth knowledge and experience in the fields, sub-fields and areas for which special medical titles may be used to indicate special medical activity, within the framework of several years of professional activity under the guidance of doctors authorised to do so.

Further training may only be commenced after the license to practise medicine has been granted. The duration and content of further training shall be governed by the provisions of the Annex to the Further Training Regulations for Doctors. The further training periods indicated there are minimum periods. Insofar as the completion of courses is prescribed in the annex to the further training regulations, prior recognition of the respective course and its leader by the medical association responsible for the location of the event is required. Additional medical titles, such as medical informatics, may only be used together with the professional title "doctor" or a regional title. However, an additional title may only be used in addition to a regional title if the area concerned falls within the field whose title the doctor holds. Information on the guidelines [5] and the valid further training regulations can be obtained from the state medical associations.
