GMS Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie (MIBE)

GMS Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie (MIBE) is the scientific publication organ of the GMDS and the Department of Informatics in the Life Sciences.

MIBE publishes original scientific papers that deal with the acquisition, analysis and provision of data on health and disease and the design of processes in medicine and healthcare. MIBE's aim is to support healthy and sick people, as well as medical professionals and researchers, in preventing, curing and alleviating diseases and in better understanding their causes and effects.

Here you can find all publications of the online journal MIBE:

"Silberfisch"

With the MIBE, since 2005 the GMDS has continued the tradition of a scientific journal for its disciplines founded in 1969 by the Gustav Fischer/Eugen Ulmer publishing house. Known to all older GMDS members as "Silberfisch", the journal first appeared under the name "EDV in Medizin und Biologie", later as "Biometrie und Informatik in Medizin und Biologie" and then as "Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie in Medizin und Biologie".

The "Silberfisch" is available online at:

The GMDS would like to thank the Leipzig University Library and the Elsevier publishing house as successor to the Gustav Fischer/Eugen Ulmer publishing house for their support.

Methods of Information in Medicine (MIM)

Since October 2012, the journal Methods of Information in Medicine (MIM) has been the official international journal of the GMDS. Cf. GMDS-Mitteilungen 3/2012 p. 1. and Bickeböller H, Haux R, Winter A. "Tradition Is not Preserving the Ashes, It Is Passing on the Fire" - On Strengthening Ties with GMDS. Methods Inf Med 2013; 52: 1-2 and GMDS-Mitteilungen 4/2012 p. 17-19.

About the background:
The GMDS is one of the major international associations in the subjects it represents. The research results generated by its members as well as the recommendations and statements developed in the GMDS are also of importance beyond Germany. Due to the close connection between GMDS and MIM, whose foundation and content-related orientation was or is closely related to the GMDS, research results from the GMDS environment and GMDS statements from medical informatics, biometry, epidemiology and medical documentation can be made even more visible internationally. This has strengthened the international influence of the GMDS.

The MIM in turn, in the tradition of the GMDS, focuses on the methodology and scientific foundations of the organisation, representation and analysis of data, information and knowledge in biomedicine and health care and thus on the disciplines represented in the GMDS.

Benefits for the GMDS and its members:

Personal GMDS members have access to all MIM publications, including the journal's archive going back to 1962, via the GMDS intranet pages.

Internationally relevant GMDS statements or information on GMDS activities can be published promptly as reports or addressed in editorials. Cf. e.g.: "Winter A, Hilgers RD, Hofestädt R, Knaup-Gregori P, Ose C, Timmer A. Data Integration for Integrated Research and Care. Methods Inf Med. 2016; 55: 365-6" for this reporting period.
