Aims & Tasks

The "German Association for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS) e.V."

  • is an independent scientific-medical association

  • is primarily active in the fields of medical informatics, medical biometry and epidemiology including medical documentation in health care in theory and

    application, in research and teaching,

  • offers its medical-informational, biometric and epidemiological methods as a "cross-sectional subject" to all medical sub-fields in cooperation and develops

    these methods further together with computer science, mathematics, statistics, economics, clinical research, bioinformatics and health services research

    in particular

  • with currently about 2,000 members, it is the only scientific association that represents these four disciplines together in Germany

  • cooperates with a number of affiliated professional associations in the exchange of experience, pursuit of common goals and in the organisation of joint

    workshops, meetings or conference sessions,

  • develops the representation of the disciplines through expert representation, e.g. in the planning of public funding measures, in questions of standardisation,

    through statements, in the setting up of teaching institutions, in training, further- and continuing education opportunities and on legislative measures.
